So I needed something a little bit special to round of this 5 of the best series on properties under £300,000, and having soaked in an urban vista with the previous post, I felt that number 5 should offer a complete contrast. And here it is: Creag Dearg, which has a stunning setting on the Applecross Peninsula on Scotland’s west coast. This area is well known for its natural beauty and the cottage is just a short walk from the spectacular coastline with its sheltered harbours and pristine sandy beaches. If you were ever looking for a spot to get away from it all, this is it.

Needless to say perhaps, this location is also known for its wildlife, and you’ll find a seal watching area just 100 metres from the house. Creag Dearg has been in the same family since it was built in the mid-1950s, and the cottage has recently been refurbished and also extended to create a comfortable and modern home.

The layout was reconfigured to form a spacious new dining-kitchen along with an en-suite shower room for the master bedroom, and the attic bedrooms have been opened up to create a bright open plan area that’s currently used as an office (although there could be potential to create a third bedroom here). The house was re-insulated in the floors and walls and new double glazing was installed along with underfloor heating in the bathrooms and porch, while the sitting room features a wood burning stove - exactly what you’d want after arriving home from a chilly coastal walk.

The cottage also has open views out to sea, so you don’t even have to step outside to appreciate the vista. Can you imagine escaping here for a week or two - Creag Dearg would make a great holiday home after all - and waking up to this view every day? Beautiful.
